SCRABSTER & the Bottler Dog logo

The name Scrabster comes from the book by Douglas Adams "The Meaning of Lif" (no "e") where the author took place names in Great Britain which didn't have any meaning to them, and added his own meaning.  Scrabster in Scotland was one of these place names, and Douglas Adams wrote that a Scrabster was a little scruffy dog that tries to mate with your leg under the table in the pub.

The Scrabsters M.C.C. logo is therefore a scruffy little dog mating with a leg wearing a motorcycle boot. At first, the dog did not have a name, so a competition was run for people to think up a name for him. The name that was eventually chosen was "Bottler". This was selected as, in Birkenhead, a lot of Bikers drink Newcastle Brown Ale. Newcastle Brown Ale has the nickname of "Dog" (a Geordie term) therefore if someone in Birkenhead wants a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale they ask for "a bottle of Dog" - hence the name "Bottler Dog".

The Club patch bearing the logo is in the shape of a Newcastle Brown label.
